Solar Panel from SIStech

“ATON“ 5V / 5W

This is the Solar Panel that I have used properly since last year. I’ve tested the Solar Card “Anton” last year on my one week trip in the Swiss Alps and then in the three Month’s in the US. I needed a Solar Charger for my Camera, iPhone and Kindle reader. When I was looking to buy a Solar Panel, Friends recommended a setup from a Swiss Company called Sistech.

In practice

I used it for my 5 day trip on the via Albula trail. During that week, I didn’t want to use the electricity on the Campground, or use outlets on the way. I really wanted to charge all the Items on my trip with the Solar Module. I had sunshine, rain, and snow, temperatures range from below zero up to 30°C.
The Solar Panel (Aton) is waterproof, the Battery and Charger are not.
I use an 2l Sea to Summit Fold Drybag to keep everything dry. I usually keep everything in an outside pocket of my Backpack, so that the cable from the Panel to the Battery can be short.
For the John Muir Trail, we were on the trail for 20 days without having to hike out to get resupply. It was an organised trip, we had porters hiking in for our resupply. This meant that we were really for 20 days on the trail. No electricity, shower or other things, you really start to miss it after a few days.
In these 20 days I charged my iPhone about 5-6 times, my Canon 3 times and my Kindle reader also 3 times (it is more than 3 years old). Without any problems, I was the only person in the group with a Panel, but I knew I wanted to take a lot of pictures and the camera would last for about 5 days, and just to buy extra batteries to expensive.

The Setup

When I looked to buy one, I had no idea what I would need. To charge an iPhone is not a problem but I had zero idea what I would need to charge the Canon Battery. After an email to Sistech they send you a possible list of items that would fit your need and work together.

Conclusion

The Solar Panels from Sistech are very versatile and will adapt to whatever your need is.
The Panel is sturdy and flexible enough. The holes in the corners make it easy to attach it to nearly everything. If you are out hiking for more than 5 days this is a good product.

The thing is that usually you are rarely more than 5 days away from an electric outlet and just an extra Battery, like the Power Tank. If you need to charge anything in these 5 days, the Battery will be more than enough. At your next stop you just recharge it.
